Electricity, mobile plans, and broadband in Sweden — how to sign up as a newcomer, with or without a personnummer.

Getting the practical basics running — power, a phone number, and internet — trips up a surprising number of newcomers, mostly because Sweden splits these into choices you don't expect. Electricity is billed separately from the grid itself, and doing nothing means paying an unregulated default rate. Mobile plans don't require a personnummer at all if you go prepaid, but most people don't realize that and delay getting a Swedish number unnecessarily. Broadband is the strangest of the three — many apartment buildings have already picked your provider for you, or bundled it into rent, and mobile broadband is the standard stopgap when fixed fiber takes weeks to activate. These guides cover what to actually do in the first days and weeks, personnummer or not.
